The “National Continuing Capability Enhancement Training for NSTP Implementers and Educators” took place from January 24 to 26, 2024, at the Ramada Hotel in Binondo, Manila. The event featured Hon. Renato U. Solidum, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, as the keynote speaker.
In response to the challenges posed by the global health crisis and the evolving educational landscape post-COVID, the Philippine Society of NSTP Educators and Implementers (PSNEI) collaborated with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and other Technical Working Groups (TWGs) to organize the seminar.
The objectives of the training were multi-faceted. Firstly, it aimed to address challenges in NSTP implementation, focusing on the operationalization of reserve units and mobilization strategies for reservists in the post-pandemic educational landscape. Secondly, the seminar aimed to integrate peace-building education into the NSTP framework, emphasizing its role in fostering peace and social cohesion.
Another significant aspect was the deepening of understanding regarding the rudiments and requirements of the NSTP and NSRC. The event sought to explore the intricacies of these programs, providing insights into their operationalization.
The training is also intended to intensify appreciation for the NSTP and the Reservist Programs, highlighting their value in fulfilling their mandates consistent with national service. The esteemed participants included our RMC-ROTC and NSTP Coordinator, Professor Cristina Ariate, and Sir. Aldrin Daiz, who served as one of the committee members for the seminar.
PSNEI played an important role in the 2020 review and revision of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act 9163. This effort laid down new minimum standards and developed modules for NSTP 1 and NSTP 2. Additionally, PSNEI actively contributed to the revision of guidelines for community-based disaster risk reduction and management.
The National Service Training Program (NSTP), as defined in Republic Act 9163, is aimed at enhancing civic consciousness and defense preparedness in youth. The three program components focus on developing the ethics of service and patriotism, ensuring the youth actively contribute to the general welfare.
Hence, the “National Continuing Capability Enhancement Training” served as a platform to fortify the commitment of educators and implementers to the principles of NSTP. The event provided valuable insights and updates, empowering participants with the tools to mold the youth into responsible and proactive contributors to the nation’s well-being. The collective efforts of educators and implementers reflect a commitment to building a resilient and prepared society in the face of evolving challenges.
