Justice Leopoldo Abellera’s 106th birthday on January 22, 2022 is celebrated by the RMC Community as Loyalty Day.

Justice Abellera is the founder of The Rizal Memorial Colleges, Inc.,which will turn 74 years old in April this year.

The commemoration started with a Holy Mass on January 20, 2022 at St. Jude Parish on Malvar Street, Davao City.  It was presided by Rev. Fr. Pedro Maniwang.  Fr. Maniwang pointed out during his homily the uniqueness of the event due to the celebration of the Holy Mass first.  This was explained by Human Resource Director Conrado A. Adeva, Jr.’s thanksgiving speech by pointing out to the RMC motto as embedded in the RMC logo:  Pro Deo et Patria, For God and Country.  A limited number of RMC employees were invited to the Holy Mass to follow the current Covid-19 pandemic protocols.

On January 21, 2022, the Loyalty Day celebration continued with the offering of a flower wreath and flower basket  at the statue of Justice Abellera right behind the Twin Buildings.  With the alumni-donated “I ♥ RMC” marker in the background, Ms. Christine Potestas-Agaton, OIC-head of Admissions and Marketing, recited the prayer and presided over the ceremony. The wreath was carried by IBED Principal Dr. Albert  Musico and CCJE Dean Dr. Estrellieta Lacuesta.  Research Director Dr. Nelia Aga presented the flower basket.  Atty. Ernesto Raphael V. Robillo, Vice President for Administration, delivered a speech.  A limited number of participants were present to follow the current health protocols.  Free packed lunches were served at noontime for all as part of the celebration. Though not done during the Mass or wreath offering, within the video is the presentation of certificates of recognition to some alumni who have helped RMC students by either fully or partially paying for their tuition fees in the First Semester of Academic Year 2021-2022.
